ASHICO Joins the Conference on Security Patrol Coordination for Subsea Gas Pipelines

06/07/2020

Vietnam’s seas and islands are strategic areas for national defence and security, forming the country’s eastern defence line and providing the necessary space to control access to the mainland. Inheriting and developing the maritime sovereignty awareness of our ancestors and recognising the particular importance of the seas and islands in national construction and defence, our Party and State have issued many policies on maritime affairs. Managing and exploiting the sea in tandem with firmly defending sovereignty, sovereign rights, and national jurisdiction — to enrich the nation — is the consistent view of the Party and State.

On 6 July 2020 in Hanoi, the Coast Guard Command, Vietnam Gas Corporation (PVGAS), and ASHICO co-organised the “Interim Review Conference on the Agreement for Security and Safety Patrol of Subsea Gas Pipelines for Vietnam Gas Corporation, Phase 2019–2020”.

Implementing the patrol agreement between the Coast Guard Command, PVGAS, and Asia Asset Investment and Management Joint Stock Company (ASHICO), from June 2019 to June 2020 the Coast Guard Command directed and assigned Coast Guard Regions 3 and 4 to coordinate monthly with the Gas Companies (Southeast and Ca Mau) and ASHICO to carry out 23 out of 30 vessel voyages protecting the safety of subsea gas pipelines from the pipeline shore-connection points to the drilling and gas-supply platforms. The patrols detected 9 fishing vessels anchored in violation of the safety corridor and persuaded 104 Vietnamese fishing vessels operating near the safety corridor to move away from the subsea gas pipelines.

The conference was successful. Participants devoted much effort to raising issues for discussion to open new directions and elevate Cooperation Agreement No. 02/2014 between Vietnam Gas Corporation and the Vietnam Coast Guard Command.

In the coming period, the parties agreed to continue maintaining the security and safety patrols of subsea gas pipelines, regarding this as a political mission for all parties.
