ASHICO Pays Tribute to Heroic Martyrs on the 73rd Martyrs’ Day

29/07/2020

On the 73rd anniversary of Martyrs’ Day (27 July 1947 – 27 July 2020), on 27 July 2020 an ASHICO delegation led by General Director Nguyễn Sơn visited and offered incense at the Unnumbered Ships Memorial in Đồ Sơn, Hai Phong.

In 1945, the August Revolution succeeded and the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was born. While the young revolutionary government was still fragile, French colonialists plotted to return to invade our country. Determined to defend the fruits of the revolution and preserve independence and freedom, our army and people fought valiantly where the French colonialists provoked aggression. Many soldiers and compatriots were wounded; some rested forever on the battlefield. In the face of such losses, President Ho Chi Minh proposed that the Government choose one day each year as “Wounded Soldiers’ Day” for the people to show gratitude, repay, and care for wounded soldiers and martyrs’ families. In agreement with his wishes, a preparatory conference was convened in June 1947 at Phú Ninh Commune, Đại Từ District, Thái Nguyên Province, and agreed to make 27 July “National Wounded Soldiers’ Day”. From 1955, 27 July became “Wounded Soldiers and Martyrs’ Day”.
